A Niger Delta right activist Comrade Daniel Sapele, urges the executive governor of Bayelsa state senator Douye Diri, to make tertiary education less expensive and to be easily accessible in the state.
Comrade Sapele, made the call in Yenagoa the state's capital on the backdrop of the public outcry that the state owned Niger Delta university (NDU)'s new academic policy has mandated all fresh students to pay a whopping seven eight thousand naira (#78,000) as clearance fee and another one hundred and ten thousand (110,000) as school fees failure to comply within two (2) weeks such admission is automatically withdrawn.
Comrade Sapele, said education is one of the fundamental rights of Nigerians including Bayelsan as enshrined in the 1999 constitution amended and as such both the federal and states governments Bayelsa state inclusive are under obligation to provides citizens with quality education.
The Ogbotobo born activist said students who are from humble background has found it very hard to acquire University education owing to the above policy strictly implemented by the state own university (NDU).
He, said he's calling same time appealing to the executive governor of the state senator Douye Diri, to prevail on the vice Chancellor of the institution to reverse the said policy that's capable of denying prospective Bayelsan quality education which will in turn will also deny the state development in the future if this trend is not curtail now.
Egbemo 1 as he's fondly called said the essence of government at all levels is to always consider policies that are people friendly as the people are the direct recipients of all forms of governance.
Comrade Sapele, said so he's appealing to His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, to please as a matter of urgency and public importance prevail on the vice Chancellor to reverse that said policy that has already caused Bayelsan serious pains.
